TallyRest

Thirty-eight services last month. Which seven haven’t paid you yet?

Most funeral homes can answer that only by opening a filing cabinet. TallyRest keeps every insurance assignment, every family balance and every follow-up in one place, so the answer is on the screen when you sit down in the morning.

No card. Works beside the system you already use.

The Assignment Desk: each open insurance assignment with its carrier, amount, status, the recommendation to hold or factor, days waiting, expected payment date and the next call to make.
The Assignment Desk: every open insurance assignment, how long it has waited, and the next call to make. This and every picture on this page is the real application, showing an invented funeral home. Real cases stay private to each home.

What it does

The money side of the back office, from the day an assignment is filed to the day it is paid.

The morning list

The first screen each day is what needs a call or a decision today, oldest money first.

  • Which carrier to chase, and which claim packet went unanswered
  • Which family payment was missed
  • What is waiting on you: hold the assignment, or factor it
The Today screen: counts of decisions, overdue follow-ups and open payment links, the assignment waiting for a decision, and the overdue calls.

What is still owed, and by whom

Every open balance by who owes it and how long it has waited, without opening a filing cabinet.

  • Families, insurance carriers, Medicaid and county, and payment plans, side by side
  • Insurance ages from the day the assignment was filed
  • A private link a family can open to see their own statement
The receivables aging report: open balances for families, insurance, Medicaid and payment plans, in columns by age.

Paperwork

Assignment forms and claim packets filled from the case, sent for signature, and stored with the case.

Your existing records

Export your open cases from your case-management system as a spreadsheet and upload it. You check the column matching before anything is saved, and nothing has to be typed twice.

A record of every change

Who changed what, and when, in a log that cannot be edited. You can read it.

What it connects to

TallyRest sits beside the systems you already have. You keep your case-management system and your accountant keeps QuickBooks.

QuickBooks Online

Each contract and payment posted to the right account in your own QuickBooks company.

  • A preview of every line and every debit and credit before anything is written
  • Cash advances kept separate from income
  • A log of what was posted, with the QuickBooks number for each entry
The posting preview: the invoice lines for one contract on the left and the balanced debits and credits they would create in QuickBooks on the right.
The sync log: contracts and payments that were posted, each with its QuickBooks invoice or payment number and the status synced.

Card and bank payments, through Stripe

A family pays from the link on their statement. The money goes to the funeral home’s own Stripe account and never passes through TallyRest.

The Payments screen: payment links sent to families, one paid by card and the rest open, with amounts and the processing fee.

How it works

Once your account is open you can do all of this yourself. If your spreadsheet does not match cleanly, we will help.

1Request an accountLeave your details. During early access we open each account by hand, within one business day. There is nothing to install and no card to enter.
2Bring in what is openUpload a spreadsheet export of your open cases and balances from the system you already use. You check the column matching before anything is saved.
3Add the people who do the workOwner, office manager, directors, your outside bookkeeper. Each sees the home's records; each can change only what their role allows.
4Work the morning listFrom the next day, the first screen is what needs a call or a follow-up today, oldest money first.

What waiting costs

An assignment is money you have already earned and cannot spend. Put in your own numbers.

Your money sitting with carriers on a typical day$53,260
Each 10 days sooner returns about$11,836

The sum: services ÷ 365 × days waiting × average contract × assignment share. It runs in your browser and is not saved or sent.

How your records are kept

Families trust you with details at the worst time of their lives. These are the rules the software is built on.

Each funeral home's records are walled off in the database itselfThe separation is enforced below the application, so a mistake in our code cannot show one home another's cases.
Policy numbers and similar details are encrypted before they are stored
Every change is written to a log that cannot be editedWho changed what, and when. You can read it.
No passwords to stealStaff sign in with a link sent to their work email, and a home can require a second step from an authenticator app.
Each person can change only what their role allowsOwner, office manager, director, outside bookkeeper, read-only.
Backed up every night, encrypted, and tested by restoring

Questions

The ones funeral homes ask first. If yours is not here, write to hello@tallyrest.com.

Do we have to replace our case-management system?
No. TallyRest sits beside it and handles the money after the service. You keep arranging and recording cases where you do now, and bring the open ones across with a spreadsheet export.
Who can see our records?
The people you add, and nobody at another funeral home. That separation is enforced inside the database, not only by the screens. Our own staff access is limited to what support requires, and every change is logged where you can read it.
What happens to our data if we stop?
It is yours. You can export it, and we delete it from the live service after you leave. The details are in our privacy notice.
Is it finished?
Tracking assignments, family balances, follow-ups, paperwork and reports is in daily use. Posting to QuickBooks and card payments from families are being finished now and are switched on for each home as they are ready.
How do staff sign in?
With a link sent to their work email, so there is no password to forget or steal. A home can also require a code from an authenticator app.
Can we talk to someone first?
Yes. Ask for a walkthrough below and we will show it to you with figures like your own.

See it first

Twenty minutes on a video call, using figures like your own. Leave your details and we will reply within one business day to set a time.
