Privacy

This website
It sets no cookies and runs no analytics or advertising scripts. Our hosting provider keeps ordinary request logs, such as the address a request came from and the page asked for, for a short period to keep the service running and secure.
The calculator on the front page works entirely in your browser. The numbers you type are not sent to us.
If you write to us
Whether by email or through the forms on this site, we keep what you send (your name, your funeral home, your email, your phone number if you give it, and your message) so we can answer and remember what was said. We do not add you to a mailing list. Ask and we will delete it.
If we wrote to you first
We sometimes email funeral homes to introduce TallyRest. We use business contact details that the funeral home has published itself, such as on its own website. Every such message says who sent it and how to stop further mail. If you tell us to stop, we stop, and we keep only your address on a do-not-contact list so that it stays stopped.
If your funeral home uses TallyRest
The records a funeral home keeps in TallyRest belong to that funeral home. We hold them only to provide the service, on the funeral home’s instructions. Each home’s records are separated from every other’s inside the database, sensitive details such as policy numbers are encrypted before they are stored, and changes are written to a log that cannot be edited.
Staff sign in with a link sent to their email, and can add a second step from an authenticator app. The application uses one cookie, which does nothing except keep that person signed in.
A funeral home may record an arrangement conference, only after everyone present has agreed, and may keep a written transcript of it. If the home asks for the facts in a transcript to be picked out for it, the transcript is sent to Anthropic, whose Claude model reads it and returns the facts for a person at the home to check. Nothing is added to a record until that person confirms it. Under its terms for business customers, Anthropic does not use what we send to train its models.
When a family pays a funeral home by card or bank transfer, the details are typed into a page run by Stripe. We never see or store a card number or bank account number. The payment goes to the funeral home’s own Stripe account, not to us.
If you are a family member with a question about a record, the funeral home that served you is the right place to ask, and we will help them answer.
Who else handles the data
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. These companies process data for us so the service can run:
- Vercel: runs the website and the application
- Neon: holds the database
- Cloudflare: domain names, incoming mail, and stored documents and recordings
- Resend: delivers the email we send
- Anthropic: reads the transcript of a conference or carrier call when a funeral home asks for its facts to be picked out
These are used only for a funeral home that has switched the feature on:
- Stripe: takes card and bank payments from families, on the funeral home's own Stripe account
- Intuit: receives invoices and payments the funeral home chooses to post to its own QuickBooks company
Your choices
A funeral home can download everything it keeps in TallyRest at any time, and can close its account; its records and stored files are then deleted after 30 days.
You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to privacy@tallyrest.com. We may need to confirm who you are before acting, and where a record belongs to a funeral home we will pass the request to them.
